UK reunions for Mal’s cats and birds; and Gill’s dogs, cats and rabbits

If you keep up with the Animalcouriers blog, you’ll know that couriers J and M recently collected Mal and Mike’s 22 cats and two birds from their previous home in the Lot-et-Garonne in France. Now they’ve reached their new home in Lincolnshire.

When we arrived, the lovely new cattery was still under construction! By about 5.00pm it was pretty much ready, so courier M started helping Mal move her cats into their new home.

Disaster struck, however, when two of the feistier felines discovered that a small part of the cattery roof wasn’t secure — Brandy managed to squeeze through the gap and made a run for it before he could be grabbed. He’s still at large, but Mal is very experienced at catching cats. She’s set up cat traps, let her neighbours know to be on the lookout, and is carrying out regular patrols. We’re all keeping our fingers crossed.

Courier M helped out with emergency repairs, but moving the rest of the cats was put off until this morning, once proper repairs had been made.

Courier Mike was also on the road, delivering Gill’s family of pets who travelled with him from Normandy, to their new home in Dorchester. It was a great homecoming for dogs Rosie Pomme, Dolly and Gracie Mai. The two rabbits, along with the four cats — Ginger, Madge, Suzanne and Minou — took it all a bit more calmly!

We leave the UK with Canela, Becky, Princessa, Rover, Wendy, Freddie and Bella; and Foxydog and Poppy hop on board in France

Animalcouriers is on one of our regular scheduled trips through France and Spain. The first pets to join us were Veronica’s extremely sociable and intelligent rabbits, Canela and Becky, who’ve been homeboarding with courier J. Veronica is a nurse and has been working in Glasgow, but will shortly be on her way back to Elche in Spain. Veronica’s parents and sister will take care of Canela and Becky until Veronica arrives.

Another pet on her way back to Spain is Princessa. This sweet little dog, originally a rescue from Spain, came to the UK with her owners. But they quickly realised they wanted to go back to Spain, and asked us to transport Princessa for them. There were lots of hugs and cuddles when we collected her in Lancashire for her journey to Almeria.

Rover the cat has the shortest journey with us, from Devon to Saint Maurin in the Lot-et-Garonne. This 16-year-old cutie used to live in Saint Maurin, then moved to the UK with her owners. Now the whole family is back together in Saint Maurin after a two-month separation.

Lhassa Apsos Wendy and her son Freddie are escaping the London chill for the warmer weather of Spain’s Alicante region. They enjoy sniffing around on their walks and seem very relaxed about the whole business of travelling. Owner Abigail was delighted to be reunited with them following several months apart.

The well named Bella is moving from Cambridge to the Almeria region of Spain. Like any sensible puss, she spends the day tucked up in bed napping, pops out for supper, then heads back to bed for another 40 winks. She’ll reach her destination very well rested!

In Paris we met up with Irish Collie Foxydog. This is her third journey with us — in 2012 we transported her from Ireland to Spain, when owner Jorge made the same move; and the following year we took her from Spain to Paris when Jorge relocated there. Jorge now now has to go to Switzerland for a few weeks, and Foxydog will spend that time with his family in Spain, who are very excited at the prospect.

Lovely Staffie Poppy is travelling with us to Portugal from the Lot-et-Garonne region of France, where her family runs a horse stud. Her owner has moved to a stud in Portugal, and has asked his mother to send Poppy to join him, as he’s missing her badly. We reckon it’s his mum who’ll miss Poppy now, given the lace pillows, pink blanket and white diamante collar and lead that are accompanying Poppy on her travels!

We've never before met a cat (let alone a female cat) called Rover! She's very affectionate and loves a head scratch every time we pass.
