Collecting a family of dogs, cats and rabbits in Normandy; and heading to Jersey in convoy

While couriers J and M set off with Mal’s big family of cats and birds, courier Mike was in the Normandy area collecting a slightly smaller family of pets.

Gill and her family have lived on a farm near Calvados for many years, and are now heading back to the UK. They’re moving to Dorchester, so not a million miles from their old French haunts! The family’s three dogs, four cats and two rabbits are travelling with us. Rosie Pomme is a lovely big German Shepherd Dog, and Dolly is a Burmese Mountain Dog. Completing the canine contingent is little Gracie Mai, a cheeky miniature Schnauzer. The cats are Ginger, Madge, Suzanne and Minou.

The two Animalcouriers vans met up in Saint Malo to take the Condor crossing to Jersey. All the pets from both families behaved beautifully at check-in — except Mal’s cat Soda, who gave the Condor man a run for his money and a few scratches to boot!

Couriers J and M have been in regular contact with Mal, who is naturally missing her big family. Mal shared her thoughts with us, saying:

“You are so lovely, my babies couldn’t be in better hands. Everybody says the house is quiet and empty without the cats, and I feel like a big bit of me is missing. I could hear courier M talking to the cats in the van which put my mind at rest. I also know with courier J they will do as they are told — you are in control! I know they are safe with you two.”

We couldn't resist another photo from Mal's family — handsome Mischief! Mal says he's very loving — his mother was feral and had her kittens in Mal and Mike's garage, but he came straight up to her. His sister Jezabelle also stayed with Mal and Mike, and is travelling with us.

Miski, Cali and Scali are on their way back to Crete

Miski, Cali and Scali have spent the winter on Jersey with Jill and Sheila. Now it’s time for everyone to go home to Crete, where Jill and Sheila do great work looking after stray cats, making sure they get health checks and getting them neutered.

It will be quite a long journey by road for these three cats but, following a less than ideal experience of getting them to Jersey by air, Jill and Sheila are keen to ensure their little family will have a more sedate ride this time around.

We had a bit of spare time on Jersey before catching our ferry to the French port of St Malo, so went to visit the very interesting medieval Gorey Castle (also known as Mont Orgueil Castle). A bit puzzled not to be asked for an entry fee, we wandered in and had a good look around. Feeling ready for a Jersey crab sandwich and wanting to check on our charges, we went to leave, only to find the huge exit door firmly locked!

After testing every door we could find and flapping our arms to try and attract attention, we finally resorted to ringing 999! The police quickly found a key-holder and 10 minutes later our very own knight in shining armour had released us.

Five cats and a puppy are heading to France and Switzerland

Animalcouriers set off today from Portsmouth with a lovely collection of pets on board. Our first stop is Jersey, then it’s on to France.

Four of the cats belong to Martin and Claire. The family is relocating from the Manchester area to the Burgundy region of France, where Martin set up his lute-making business last year. He’s been waiting a while for his staff of Sid, Ben, Casper and Aztec to arrive. This quartet are glad to be on their way as they’ve been quite worried about how Martin has been managing without them!

Ture and Oscar are travelling from Jersey to Dublin

When Giles and Sam needed to relocate from Jersey to Dublin, they contacted Animalcouriers for a travel plan for their two dogs, Ture and Oscar.

It’s not a straightforward journey, as there are two stretches of water to cross and no direct routes for pets.

We settled on a plan that would enable the dogs to travel ahead of the family. They flew from Jersey to London Gatwick, where courier R collected them. Ture and Oscar are now homeboarding with couriers J and R for a week, while the family packs up in Jersey and gets settled in Dublin.

House dogs Billywhizz and Pugsley are enjoying having two new friends to stay for a few days.

Oscar on the left, Ture on the right, very excited about going for a walk in the park

But which way is the park? Each dog has its own idea!

Maybe Megan?

This delightful Springer Spaniel pup, whose name hasn’t yet been finalised, is travelling with Animalcouriers from Hampshire to Jersey.

While we were waiting for the ferry crossing, she had lots of cuddles with courier S in the van.

Oh those Spaniel eyes!
