UK reunions for Ziollo, Meiow Meiow, Odie and Baboushka; and Jack makes a new friend

The last stop for Animalcouriers on the trip back from Portugal was at a working wine domaine near Auxerre, in the Burgundy region of France. Couriers J and M immersed themselves in the table d’hôte experience and enjoyed tasting the fantastic wines produced at the domaine: a rosé to start, a crisp white to accompany the artisan meat pie, a pinot noir with the main, and a spicier version with pudding.

The family who run the domaine invited us to park our van and walk the dogs within the vintners yard. They watched over us as we prepared the pets for a safe and secure overnight stay.

Once back in the UK, reunions started. Ziollo and Meiow Meiow from Spain arrived at their new home in Hove, where owner Sue was waiting anxiously for them. Odie, also from Spain, was delivered to Kate, who’s been raising money for his rescue and rehoming. He went up to her like a long lost friend and jumped up all waggy tailed. Kate thinks‎ she may have already met his sister, too.

Gorgeous Abyssinian Baboushka has been homeboarding with us since we collected her in France last month. When her owners Fiona and Richard called in to collect her, she gave them a rapturous greeting.

Destination UAE: Molly and Honey relocate; Johney is off to demonstrate his skills

Animalcouriers collected gorgeous dogs Molly and Honey in Lincolnshire and homeboarded them overnight. Both girls were very relaxed and quickly made themselves at home. The next morning it was off to the airport for their flight to Dubai to rejoin their owners. Martyn and Beth had gone on ahead to the United Arab Emirates to make sure everything would be ready for the dogs’ arrival. Martyn wrote to say:

“Two very excited dogs now in their new home in Dubai! Thanks for all the help!”

Also heading to UAE was Border Collie Johney, off to give a demonstration of his sheep-handling skills. He was accompanied by his owner, Katy, a former winner of ‘One Man and his Dog’ (a UK TV series featuring sheepdog trials) and now one of the show’s judges.

When Animalcouriers spoke to Katy last week, we could hear her scraping snow. She told us how much she was looking forward to swapping cold and wintry Cumbria for the warmth of Dubai for a couple of weeks.

A great way to start the new year — news about recent passengers Etti, Rudi, Josephine, Toddy and Maisie

Animalcouriers wishes all our friends and followers a very happy and healthy 2015. To kick off the new year in the best way, we’d like to share updates about some of our recent passengers.

Rescue dog Etti (short for Loretta) travelled with us just last month from the Almeria region of Spain to join David and Victoria. David wrote to say:

“Thank you very much for getting our sweet pooch to us in time for Christmas. She’s such a joy. We have been very lucky with her, considering we just went on a ‘hunch’. As you can see, she is already very much at home, and we will soon wonder how we ever lived without her.”

We also received Christmas greetings from Rudi, a clever young dog who attached herself to Simon and family while they were on holiday in Portugal. Rudi travelled with us in September to join her new family and has clearly got her paws firmly under the table.

Edward sent us news about beautiful black cat Josephine, who’s swapped life in London for a more bucolic time in the Burgundy region of France. She travelled with us in November, has settled in well and seems happier in France than she was in London. “I think it is the lack of competition for territory here (lots of land, very few cats),” says Edward.

“Thank you for all your care, and the trouble you took with Josephine. It really is appreciated. Sometimes other people do not understand how important a loved pet is, but Animalcouriers showed a level of empathy and understanding rarely encountered.”

Shortly before Christmas we arranged flights for Toddy to New Zealand, and Maisie to the United Arab Emirates.

Toddy’s journey started in Malaga, in Spain. His owner Martin had to go on ahead and left Toddy with friends until he was ready to meet New Zealand’s stringent entry requirements. Courier A, who’s based in Spain, helped to see Toddy through vet visits and final paperwork. Once everything was ready, Toddy flew to Gatwick airport, where Animalcouriers collected him and drove him to Heathrow airport in our quarantine van, to prevent his Spanish export paperwork from being invalidated. The following day he jetted off to New Zealand to rejoin Martin.

Lively Goldendoodle Maisie homeboarded with Animalcouriers before flying off to the UAE to meet Annie and the rest of her new family. Annie contacted us about pet shipping services before she found Maisie, saying they felt they had a long search ahead. But just days later they found Maisie! Her previous owner had fallen ill and was sadly unable to keep her, so her breeder had taken her back. That’s when Annie called, and the rest, as they say, is history. Annie tells us:

“Maisie is just wonderful (but I do feel like at times I have an energetic toddler in the house!) and doesn’t seem fazed by anything or anyone. She really has come here with all guns blazing. She has the most gorgeous gentle temperament and she is getting so much attention and so many cuddles from the family which is great. When I see her just lying casually around it feels like she has been with us for much longer than she has — a good sign, I think. Thank you again for all your help and care.”

Milo, Randolph and Louis travel to Ireland; Fifi and Bella reach Northampton; and John Dorian is reunited with Marta

Handsome ginger tabby Milo is on the final leg of his journey from Malta, where he was rescued from dockside life by Trevor. He’ll shortly be arriving at his wonderful new home with Trevor and Ann in Donegal.

Staffie Randolph is also on board — he’s swapping Islington for Cork. This friendly, affectionate chap homeboarded with us before the journey started. He’s not keen on being confined in any way — he would suddenly appear in an open doorway, looking for someone to play with!

Standard Poodle Louis makes up the passenger list to Ireland. This very good-looking fellow flew from Marbella in Spain to London Gatwick. He homeboarded with us briefly and is now heading to Cork to rejoin Lorna.

Meanwhile, courier S delivered Suzanne’s gorgeous cats Fifi and Bella to Chevington Moor cattery in Morpeth, Northampton. They’ll board here for a couple of days until Suzanne catches up with them, having left France a few days after they did. The two cats quickly set about exploring their new bedrooms, before settling down to a freshly prepared tasty lunch.

And finally, ferret John Dorian, who travelled with us from Portugal, was reunited with his owner Marta in Leicester. He was the perfect passenger, enjoyed all his meals and slept very snugly in his hammock bed. Marta told us he’s always wonderfully calm — when he was having injections at the vet, he even gave the vet a kiss! She also explained that in Portugal, it’s very rare to have a pet ferret, so when she walked him on his lead, people always stopped to ask questions.

Meet three delightful puppies: Kuran, Inez and Obi

Animalcouriers collected gorgeous German Shepherd Dog puppies Kuran and Inez from Riethoven in the Netherlands, for the first leg of the their journey to Barbados. They were bred by a former chief of police whose puppies mostly go on to interesting and vital working lives with the police, army and search and rescue teams. For now, however, these two are simply enjoying being teenagers!

After checking their passports and microchips, we drove to Calais for a Eurotunnel crossing to the UK, and last night they homeboarded with us in Surrey. Today they’ll have their final health check at the vet before heading to the airport for their flight to Barbados.

We’re also introducing you to Obi, a very handsome young Whippet who’ll be travelling with us to France next month, where Didier is excitedly awaiting his arrival.

Reunions for Rufus, Athena and Jack; and Sam and Sky are on board

Dogs often find a visit to the vet quite stressful, but it was the opposite for black Labrador Rufus. He travelled with Animalcouriers from Portugal to Scarborough where he was reunited with his owner, Ana, at the vet clinic where she is a nurse. As you can imagine, Rufus was both surprised and delighted to see Ana. And needless to say, all the clinic staff made a huge fuss of him.

From there we continued to Belsay, near Newcastle, to drop cats Athena and Jack at the family’s new home, a lovely farm cottage deep in the country. Athena and Jack will doubtless settle into the lifestyle of country cats very quickly.

Then it was off to collect handsome 14-years-young black cat Sam in Stockport. He’s moving with his devoted owners to a new home in the hills near Perpignan in France. To spare him the stress of the removal men, he’ll homeboard with Animalcouriers for a few days while his old house is packed up, and will then travel with us to France in early October, where his new home will be all ready for him.

Our final collection was eight-month-old Malamute Sky. He’s grown too large for his owner’s home, standing nearly a metre high at the shoulder. So she made the brave and wise decision to let her beloved dog move to live with her parents, who have a lovely big garden and lots of time to spend with him and to continue his training. And of course, plenty of opportunities for frequent visits!

Nutmeg is swapping the UK for China

Handsome Golden Retriever Nutmeg has an exciting adventure ahead, as he is off to Shanghai. The first step on his epic journey involved being collected by courier D and taken to his vet appointment.

With a bit of time to spare, courier D took Nutmeg to meet his sons, Oliver and Finlay. The boys were so taken with Nutmeg, they’re now petitioning their dad for a dog of their own!

Nutmeg is now homeboarding with Animalcouriers, staying with courier M and his Golden Retriever Amber until it’s time to catch his flight.

Travelling from the UK: Billybob, Alfie, Tiger, Lily and Sox

Animalcouriers set off yesterday from the UK with pets bound for Belgium, Denmark and Sweden. The clouds were heavy with rain and we thought Hurricane Bertha might catch up with us — but fortunately we experienced nothing worse than a bit of rain.

First up, we delivered darling Cocker Spaniel Billybob to his temporary home in Liège in Belgium. His owners, Veronique and her husband, are going to spend a few months in Australia, during which time Billybob will stay with Veronique’s mum in Liège before travelling back with us to the UK. Veronique and her husband will then split their time between Australia and the UK, and Billybob will occasionally homeboard with Animalcouriers when both his owners are away.

Kim and her family have relocated from Surrey to a coastal town near Copenhagen in Denmark. Naturally the family’s pets — Cockerpoo Alfie and cats Tiger and Lily — are going too. The cats homeboarded with Animalcouriers for a week while the family took a short holiday — but perhaps they should have come to us sooner, as once the removers arrived Lily realised something was up, and went AWOL three days before we were due to collect them!

Kim was a complete hero, sleeping on the floor of the empty house next to Lily’s food bowl, hoping she would show up. With the local branch of the Cats’ Protection League on standby in case she didn’t reappear before the family went on holiday, Lily came home with just hours to spare! The cats made it to our base in Surrey without any further hitches and behaved perfectly during their stay.

Staffie Sox is relocating with his owner Ubbi from Birmingham in England to the Swedish capital Stockholm. He’s a handsome fellow who’s had quite a bit of dog show success in the UK, which Ubbi is hoping will continue in Sweden.

It’s tricky to get a good photo of Sox as he’s a ball of energy. Life is just too exciting and Sox enjoys every moment of it to the full. He was even pleased to see the six German police officers who came to search the van when they heard strange noises coming from it. It was actually Sox, doing his best impression of a piglet — something his owner had fortunately warned us about!

From Belgium we crossed into Germany, reaching the city of Bremen last night, where we stayed at the university campus hotel. It boasts a rather splendid nature trail, where we enjoyed peaceful walks this morning. Then it was off to catch the ferry to Denmark, to reunite Alfie, Tiger and Lily with their family.

Thaddeus and Perseus from Greece are en route for Ireland

Animalcouriers met Sarah at Folkestone Services. She had flown from Athens in Greece to Brussels in Belgium, then taken a taxi to England.

She was travelling with three cats of her own, plus two rescue cats from Nine Lives Greece, Thaddeus (formerly Homer) and Perseus, whose ultimate destination is Ireland, where a new home with Ann and Trevor awaits them.

Until their transport to Donegal is arranged, Thaddeus and Perseus are homeboarding with Animalcouriers.

Cheese-tasting in the Dijon area as we follow the Tour de France route

Couriers J and M set off from the UK, heading towards Spain, and spent last night in the Dijon area of France. On board so far are Bonnie, Nellie, Lola and India.

Tabby-and-white cats Bonnie and Nellie are quite hard to tell apart. These two lovelies have been homeboarding with Animalcouriers for a week since arriving from Wales. They’re now en route to their new home in Moraira in Spain, where their owners Val and David are eagerly awaiting their arrival — Val says once the cats are there it will really feel like home.

At just 8 inches tall, miniature Yorkie Lola must have felt like she was stalking through the jungle on her morning walk. This plucky little girl loved it all — leaping about, walking on her hind legs, and playing with her new chum India.

India is travelling with us from London to the wonderful Spanish city of Seville. She homeboarded with Animalcouriers for a couple of nights before we set off. This was perfect because she’s quite a shy dog, and it gave us a chance to get to know each other.
