Edwin arrives in Berlin; and Jess, Walt and Bella get on board

Silver tabby Edwin’s owner Anne rang Animalcouriers to say her flight to Berlin was horribly delayed, making our planned rendezvous impossible. Fortunately, vet Kai-Uwe Dix was willing to step into the breach to cat-sit (and doubtless pamper) Edwin until Anne arrived.

So courier S was able to be on her way to collect Jess and Walt. These two gorgeous tabby cats are heading with their owner Hannah back to Sheffield, following a year of studying in Berlin. Hannah says it’s been the best year ever and she would love to come back (with Jess and Walt, of course). Hannah adopted these two cats from a Spanish rescue organisation. As kittens, they had lived on the streets, but now lead a cosy indoor life.

From Berlin it was off to Stuttgart to pick up Bella. A Rottie cross, this beautiful dog is heading back from Germany to the US with her family. She’s travelling with us by road to London, and will fly from Heathrow to San Antonio later in the week, once her paperwork and health checks are complete.

Today we’re driving into France and are en route to Calais for our crossing to the UK.

Archie and Cosmo get the warmest of welcomes; and Edwin is a happy traveller

Gorgeous Archie arrived at his new home in Mannheim in Germany and had a crazy five minutes dashing round the garden with family members.

Animalcouriers had been somewhat baffled by his coat — much softer than a Rottweiler’s normally is. It turns out he is partly Collie, and normally has a long soft coat which had been trimmed for the summer. Gave him a fantastic teddy bear look and feel!

The next morning we were up and about early in Denmark, near the Rodby ferry port. Cosmo enjoyed a walk in the beautiful quiet countryside. He and courier S spotted a red squirrel and a wild hare — what a treat. Cosmo spent his puppyhood near this area and seemed to sense a homecoming.

He got a great welcome when we delivered him to his new home near Ringsted, and we can see he’s going to have a lovely life in the country. Cosmo has been rehomed with family members as a new baby in his London family turned out to be very allergic to him. The four-year-old daughter in his new family explained proudly that she was very happy because as well as a baby sister, she now has a dog, too. What more could a little girl ask for? A pony? suggested courier S, before beating a hasty retreat back to Edwin in the van.

Silver tabby Edwin has taken to travelling like a pro. He insists on regular cuddles and makes it quite clear when he’s ready for the next one. Each morning courier S finds his bedroom turned upside down — and while she’s tidying up he seizes the opportunity for extra hugs. He’ll be reunited with owner Anne in just a couple of days.

Edwin and Archie are off to Germany, while Cosmo heads to Denmark

As the Animalcouriers trip from southern Europe with couriers J and M nears the UK, courier S has set out for northern Europe with Edwin, Archie and Cosmo.

Canadian-born Anne has recently finished her master’s in music at Glasgow, and now she and her handsome silver tabby cat Edwin are off to the magical city of Berlin for auditions and new operatic opportunities.

Rottweiler Archie is travelling with us to Mannheim. Sadly this lovely fellow’s owner recently passed away, but members of his extended family in Germany have offered him a new home, where he’s sure of a very warm welcome.

Also on board is Rhodesian Ridgeback Cosmo, who is relocating with his owner from London to Ringsted in Denmark, where a life in the country awaits him. Both Archie and Cosmo enjoyed walks in the Sussex countryside before we set off.

Max and Isabelle reach their new home, and we receive news of Matilda

Stunning feline duo Max and Isabelle have been reunited with their owner Kristen. Home for these top gun cats is now RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, where Kristen has been posted following a spell in Germany. She’s looking forward to settling Max and Isabelle into their new environment.

We also received an update on another lovely cat passenger. Matilda travelled with us from Lefkas in March this year, at a rather challenging time for pet travel from Greece. Her journey to the UK started by road, involved an unexpected flight in the middle, and finished by road and sea. Matilda was magnificent throughout, completely unfazed by each new step and mode of transport. Her owner Jenny has kept in touch, and recentlly sent us some news and photos:

“Here are a couple of pictures of Matilda. The thing round her neck is an electronic identity tag for her cat-flap, which she mastered admirably in a very short time! Fortunately the back gardens of these houses are well away from the busy road at the front, and she is quite safe frolicking out there, sharpening her claws on the decking and tree. She only got stuck up the tree once, the first time, and had to be helped down!

Once again, I want to say thank you for taking such excellent care of her during that ridiculously difficult journey from Lefkas.”

Max, Isabelle and Texas from Europe, a Great Dane rescue, and little Lola on a lap

Stunning feline duo Max and Isabelle are moving from Bamberg in Germany to Cambridgeshire. They belong to Kris who has a new forces posting at Lakenheath and, of course, Max and Isabelle are going too. After a short spell homeboarding locally, where they had a bedroom to themselves filled with toys, they crossed the channel yesterday evening with courier S and will stay with Animalcouriers until Kris has completed her move. It was a bit of a tight squeeze fitting a trip in for these cats but Kris has been very flexible about adjusting their travel plans.

Also relocating from mainland Europe is handsome black Labrador Texas — Tex to his friends. He is travelling with Animalcouriers from just north of The Hague in the Netherlands, to Dublin in Ireland. At 15 years of age this senior fellow is a seasoned traveller, and enjoyed listening to music and chatting with courier J on the first leg of his journey.

Meanwhile courier M collected a five-year-old Great Dane on his way back down from Scotland. This lovely lass was given up by her owners as, although they were able to care for her generally, her size meant they couldn’t control her properly, and she had a couple of encounters with other dogs. The very nice kennels where she’s been staying for a few months have been unable to rehome her, and so asked National Great Dane Rescue (NGDR) for help. Animalcouriers were called on to transfer her to NGDR’s terrific facility in Wiltshire.

The Great Dane we collected is very affectionate and in lovely condition. Because of her mistrust of other dogs, she'll need a special new home, but it will be worth it for whoever can offer her a place in their lives.

En route for the Nordics with Pumba aboard

Animalcouriers have set off on their latest road trip, that takes them through France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and on to Sweden.

On board is little Chihuahua Pumba. His owner Tina brought Pumba to us from Bristol, and he is now travelling with us to Gothenburg in Sweden, to live with Tina’s sister Madalaine.

On the ferry from Puttgarden in Germany to the Danish port of Rodby we watched a crew filming a chap smoking and looking at the sunset. Wonder if it’s a follow-up to ‘The Bridge’? We’ll be crossing that one, the Øresund Bridge, from Denmark to Sweden today.

Heading to Inverness with reunions along the way

Animalcouriers set off early yesterday morning from Surrey en route for Inverness in Scotland.

On board were the Clarke family’s dogs, Poppy and Vegas, and cats, Fat Cat and Alfie. They were accompanied by Blythe’s cats, Simon and Lucy, who were on their way back to Fife in Scotland. This intrepid pair have travelled with us before between Scotland and Switzerland , moving with Blythe each time her work as a scientist calls for her to relocate. Their grandad had everything ready and waiting for them — boxes by the fireside and food already in their dishes.

Also with us was handsome ginger-and-white cat Herr Anderson, who’s moved from Germany to live with his grandparents Gwen and Brian in the stunning Leicestershire countryside; and black cat Doofus who’s on his way to rejoin his family.

Frankie goes to Rio — in time for the footy

Cocker Spaniel Frankie’s owners are waiting in Brazil for Frankie to join them from the UK. Animalcouriers arranged for Frankie to fly with Lufthansa to Rio de Janeiro via Frankfurt in Germany.

Frankie spent last night homeboarding with Animalcouriers, with a comfy bed and plenty of TLC before his 4.00am start this morning. His flight left London a little later than scheduled — we always keep an eye on the tracking information to check whether flights have left on time, so that we can let pet owners know if there will be a delay. Frankie was checked by a vet in Frankfurt before starting the much longer leg of his flight to South America.

Cleo makes new friends on her journey from the UK to Germany

Animalcouriers transported gentle, pretty cat Cleo from the UK to Germany. Her new home is in Erfurt, just outside Frankfurt.

Cleo seemed to enjoy the trip, keen to see what was going on beyond the van door and, of course, popping up for lots of strokes.

Last night on the Eurotunnel she was treated to a coachload of fascinated schoolchildren lining up quietly to wish her goodnight and ‘bonne chance’ for her new life in Germany.

Passengers from the Netherlands and Belgium join Hagen on our UK-bound trip

Animalcouriers collected a family of three dogs and three cats from Eindhoven in the Netherlands, for their return trip to Cheshire in the UK. Sam the Greyhound, Sally the Saluki and Tilly the Jack Russell cross are travelling with their Siamese siblings Nicki, Leon and Kitty.

Lovely black-and-white cat Memphis is moving from central Brussels to London. He’s mostly keeping himself to himself but does love a stroke and a reassuring chat.

And Ali cat is also moving from Brussels, all the way to Glasgow in Scotland. He’s a real comedy character — every time we open the door he’s in a new position: blanket over his head, upside down with his toy, or right at the front of his compartment, grinning like a Cheshire cat! Latest pose: towel on top of his head! He’s managing to keep everyone very amused. Maybe he should try out for the Edinburgh festival?

We’ll be crossing the Channel this evening, then after an overnight rest, everyone will be heading homeward tomorrow.
