An urgent plea from cats in Greece

Cordelia from Nine Lives Greece has written to ask us for help in spreading the word, to see if anyone can offer a loving, responsible permanent homes for any of their cats. She says:

“We are absolutely overwhelmed with endless kittens, many of which have problems with their eyes or other issues, that are being found in rubbish bins, abandoned at the places where we feed cats, abandoned at the vets and pet-shops, left at the side of the road etc, and also just countless poor adult cats that are being ditched by their owners, particularly now with the excuse of the financial crisis.

We would be incredibly grateful if you could persuade your friends or contacts to ‘rescue a victim of the Greek crisis’ and reach out to help some of these cats (the ones pictured here are just a few, we don’t want to overwhelm you with all of the dozens of cats we are currently trying to rehome — but if you are looking for something specific in terms of age, colour, temperament please let us know, we may well have someone that fits the bill!).

The cats will be prepared to travel over according to EU and UK pet travel legislation, and we will arrange transport for them in July. Also, if they are old enough, we will of course have had them spayed/neutered. Of course we would welcome a donation towards these costs if the adopter is able and willing to chip in!

We really, really, really appreciate your help in helping us to find them homes in the UK. Things are pretty desperate here, and the animals are suffering more than ever. If we can even get a few of them out to a better life in the UK, it will free up some space at foster homes and our vets here, so that we can help others.

If anyone has questions about Lucy the blind kitten’s prognosis or treatment, or any queries about any of the other cats, we would love to receive emails.

With heartfelt thanks for all your help, especially in these dire times.”

  1. Reblogged this on My adventures across the pond and commented:
I’m reblogging this because of my love for cats and because of such a terrible situation of these cats. I started following this blog a while back because at the time I was considering bringing one of my cats over and thought I might use them. So if you would like to help or are curious please read this.

  2. I suggest you try to get in touch with @MrTibbsAP on Twitter and/or his Facebook page. He is a well connected cat (peep) in the UK who migh be able to help or put you in touch with some who can. Just a thought

    Can you help?
My human can’t adopt any more kittens (besides we’re far away from Greece) but she donated. They could use more donations for the food and the medical treatments and the surgeries. Please help?
